Inman leads Rutgers past Manhattan
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP)—J.R. Inman scored 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as Rutgers held off a late Manhattan rally and beat the Jaspers 73-67 on Saturday.
Anthony Farmer had 16 points for the Scarlet Knights (8-5), while Courtney Nelson came off the bench to add 12. Manhattan (7-5) got a game-high 23 points from Antoine Pearson, including 14 in the first half.
Rutgers appeared to take command midway through the second half, when Inman scored seven straight points in 1:30 span to give his team a 53-44 lead with 11:27 remaining.
Their lead eventually grew to 66-46 with just under seven minutes left, but Manhattan rallied in the closing minutes and cut the deficit to 70-65 when Darryl Crawford hit two of three free throws with 44 seconds remaining.
The Jaspers would not get any closer though, and Inman sealed the win with a fast-break dunk with 32 seconds left.
