Ghoram scores 26 as Rice rallies to beat TCU, 70-65
KATY, Texas (AP)—Lawrence Ghoram had 26 points and 10 rebounds and Rice rallied from a 15-point halftime deficit to beat TCU 70-65 Saturday.
The Owls (3-7) started the second half with a 16-2 run that cut a 35-20 deficit to 37-36. They went ahead for the first time at 43-42 with 11:53 remaining on a layup by Paulis Packevicius that was part of a 9-0 spurt.
The teams traded the lead five times before Rice went ahead for good at 52-51 on two free throws by Patrick Britton with 5:13 remaining.
Kevin Langford scored 14 points to lead four players in double figures for TCU (8-4), which had a four-game winning streak snapped.
The Horned Frogs ran out to a 13-2 lead barely four minutes into the game thanks to three 3-pointers, two by Henry Salter. TCU was 7-of-11 from 3-point range in the first half.
Packevicius had a game-high 14 rebounds for Rice, which outrebounded TCU 48-20 and had 24 second-chance points to just three for the Horned Frogs. Rodney Foster had 14 points, although he was just 4-of-16 shooting and had 14 of Rice’s 25 turnovers. Britton added 13 points and eight rebounds.
