Jeremiah Wood scores 16 points for Akron to win over Ill-Chicago
AKRON, Ohio (AP)—Jeremiah Wood scored 16 points to lead three double-digit scorers as Akron beat Illinois-Chicago 79-73 Saturday night.
The game tied three times and the lead changed twice in the first half, but Akron went ahead for good with four minutes left. In the second half, the Zips (10-2) scored 46 points to UIC’s 44.
Nick Dials had 16 points for Akron and Nate Linhart added 13 more.
UIC (8-5) outshot Akron 47 percent (30-of-63) to 42 percent (26-of-62), but both teams shot well from behind the three-point line—Akron went 10 for 22 and UIC 9 for 23.
Robert Bush and Robert Kreps each scored 19 points for UIC and Josh Mayo had 12. Scott Vandermeer added six but grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.
