Minnesota 77, Nicholls State 32
LAS VEGAS (AP)—Dan Coleman scored a game-high 14 points with six rebounds to lead Minnesota to a 77-32 victory over Nicholls State Friday in the first game of the Duel in the Desert three-game round-robin.
Lawrence McKenzie and Blake Hoffarber scored 13 points apiece and Lawrence Westbrook added 11 points as the Gophers (9-1) seized their largest margin victory on the road in team history.
Michael Czepil led Nicholls State (4-9) with 10 points. The Colonels were coming off a competitive game at No. 1 North Carolina, losing 88-78 on Dec. 19.
The Gophers never trailed, jumping to a 25-5 lead, and later a 39-10 advantage. Minnesota later led at halftime, 41-15. The team never let the lead get below 23 points in the second half.
Minnesota plays Kennesaw State Saturday night and host UNLV Sunday afternoon to finish the trip to Las Vegas. The Colonels play UNLV Saturday night and Kennesaw State Sunday afternoon.
