Dyson leads UConn to win over UCF
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP)—Jerome Dyson scored 23 points to lead five University of Connecticut players in double figures as the Huskies defeated UCF 85-82 Friday.
UConn (9-2) led by three early in the second half but used an 8-2 run to take a 56-46 lead it would never relinquish.
A.J. Price scored five points during that stretch, hitting a 3-pointer and a driving lay-up. He scored 13 points while Jeff Adrien finished with 16 points and nine rebounds.
The Huskies made eight-of-14 shots from 3-point range to finish above 50 percent shooting threes for the first time this season.
UCF (5-6), which lost for the fourth time in five games, stayed close with good perimeter shooting, as the Knights equaled a season high by hitting 10 three-point shots.
Jermaine Taylor hit four 3-pointers and finished with a game high 30 points. Mike O’Donnell scored 20.
The Knights got within three with 10.3 seconds remaining, but a pair of free throws from Craig Austrie sealed the victory. Kenrick Zondervan scored a lay-up to put UCF ahead 27-25 with eight minutes remaining in the first half, but UConn responded by scoring nine straight points and led 43-41 at halftime.
