Drexel 73, Rider 66
PHILADELPHIA (AP)—Tramayne Hawthorne scored all 15 of his points in the second half, Gerald Colds added 14 and Drexel rallied from a 10-point deficit to defeat Rider 73-66 Thursday night.
Scott Rodgers contributed 13, Randy Oveneke added 10 and Frank Elegar had nine points and 10 rebounds for the Dragons, who won their second straight game and improved to 7-5. Elegar also had three blocked shots, leaving him two shy of 100 in his career.
Jason Thompson scored 21 points, Mike Ringgold had 14 and Justin Robinson 11 for the Broncs, who fell to 8-5 and had their three-game winning streak snapped.
Rider led 37-30 at halftime and increased its advantage to 44-34 on a basket by Robinson with 17:40 remaining. But Drexel chipped away at the lead and eventually ripped off a 12-2 run, turning a 58-55 deficit into a 67-60 lead with 3:17 left.
Over that span of 3:32, Hawthorne and Colds hit two 3-pointers apiece. Rider got within 69-64, but the Dragons hit some clutch free throws to put the game away in the final minute.
The Broncs shot 46 percent from the field, but just 10-of-28 in the second half—36 percent. Drexel shot 46 percent from the field, including 9-of-27 from 3-point territory. Hawthorne hit five 3-pointers and Colds had four.
Drexel outrebounded Rider 39-28.
