Nicholas scores 23 to lead Wofford past Bethune-Cookman 70-59

LAS VEGAS (AP)—Shane Nicholas scored 23 points as Wofford beat Bethune-Cookman 70-59 Sunday at the Las Vegas Holiday Classic.

Nicholas made the first of six 3-pointers early in the first half to spark an 8-0 run that would put Wofford ahead for the game’s final 37 minutes.

Nicholas went 7-for-10 from the field and 6-for-8 from behind the arc.

Bethune-Cookman pulled within three 49-46 with 12:20 to play, but Nicholas made another 3 and the Terriers (7-4) scored the next five points.

Terry Martin and Corey Godzinski added 10 points each for Wofford.

John Holmes scored 21 points for Bethune-Cookman (5-7), and Dominique Whatley scored 12.

Wofford went 3-1 in the eight-team tournament, including a 69-66 upset of Purdue Wednesday. Bethune-Cookman finished 1-3.
