William & Mary tops Montreat behind Sumner, Darnell
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP)—Chris Darnell and Danny Sumner each scored 16 as William & Mary beat Montreat 87-52 on Saturday.
The Tribe (3-6) shot 53.2 percent from the field, overpowering the Cavaliers (5-7) down low. William & Mary had a lopsided 48-4 scoring advantage in the paint.
William & Mary led 22-14 with 8:31 remaining in the opening half. By intermission, the Cavaliers were behind 41-24.
It didn’t get any better in the second half as the Tribe scored 10 straight unanswered points to jump to a 51-24 lead.
Aaron Collazo led Montreat with 21 points and Thomas Nicholson added 12. The Cavaliers shot 28.6 from the field.
William & Mary doubled Montreat’s rebounding total, with 48. David Schneider and Darnell each had six rebounds and Schneider added nine points and had five assists.
