San Diego stops Texas-San Antonio 69-54
SAN DIEGO (AP)—Brandon Johnson scored 18 points and had six assists as the University of San Diego beat the University of Texas-San Antonio, 69-54, Saturday.
The Toreros snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 6-8 with the victory. Texas-San Antonio fell to 5-5.
Johnson, Gyno Pomare (15 points) and Rob Jones (13 points and a team-high eight rebounds) keyed a 21-5 San Diego surge in the final seven minutes of the first half as the Toreros wiped out a 23-19 deficit and took a 40-28 lead.
San Diego built its lead to 15 early in the second half before Melvin Smith, who scored 14 points, sparked a 9-2 run for the Roadrunners.
The Toreros answered that surge with a 17-1 run of their own, with Jones and Trumaine Johnson, who had 10 points, keying the attack.
