MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP)—Michael Beasley scored a career-high 40 points and pulled down 15 rebounds, as Kansas State used a strong second-half surge to pull away and beat Winston-Salem State 90-48 Saturday at Bramlage Coliseum.

Kansas State improved to 8-3 on the season, while Winston-Salem State dropped to 4-6.

Beasley recorded his 11th straight double-double of the season and became just the ninth player in school history to score 40 or more points in a game.

Kansas State, which had a 39-31 halftime lead, opened the second half on a 41-13 run to break open the contest, with Beasley going 11-for-13 from the field. Beasley finished with 28 total points in the second half and scored nine of the first 11 total points of the second half.

The Wildcats shot 45.6 percent from the field for the game, while shooting 55 percent during the second half. They held the Rams to just 32 percent and forced 24 turnovers.

A three-pointer from Clent Stewart with 5:41 left in the first half gave the Wildcats their largest first-half lead at 13. Winston-Salem cut the margin to six at 37-31 after a Jamal Durham layup, but two free throws from Andre Gilbert upped the lead to nine at the half.

Stewart was the only other Wildcat in double figures with 14 points, 12 of which were in the first half. Bill Walker and Fred Brown each scored nine.

Brian Fisher led the Rams with 13 points, while Paul Davis recorded a team-high seven rebounds.
