Evansville 80, Norfolk St. 71
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP)—Jason Holsinger scored a season-high 24 points, including six 3-pointers, and Shy Ely added 15 as Evansville held off Norfolk State 80-71 Saturday in the teams’ first ever meeting.
Evansville (5-5) led by as many as 12 points during the first half, which ended with the Purple Aces holding a 34-27 edge.
But Norfolk State (2-8) battled back in the second half and took a 5-point lead over the Aces at 56-51 with 7:18 to play when Corey Lyons connected on a 3-pointer.
The teams were tied five times over the second half before Granger made a 3-pointer to tie it up for the last time shortly before Holsinger hit a 3 to put Evansville ahead for good at 62-59, with 4:18 remaining.
The Aces pulled away in the last three minutes to hold on for its fourth win in five games.
Granger added 13 points for Evansville, which outrebounded the Spartans 32-28.
Tony Murphy led Norfolk State with 19 points, while Lyons added 16 and Michael Deloach had 13 points and seven rebounds.
