McCullough leads Winthrop to 62-59 win over Old Dominion
ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP)—Taj McCullough scored 14 points including a key dunk in the final minute to help lead Winthrop to a 62-59 win over Old Dominion Friday night.
Winthrop (6-5) got 13 points from Antwon Harris followed by Michael Jenkins with 12 and Chris Gaynor with 11.
The Eagles lead by 40-26 in the second half when Old Dominion (6-6) went on an 8-0 run over a three-minute stretch to cut the lead to 40-34 with 13:27 left in the game. Winthrop responded with an 11-2 run to take a 15-point lead, but the Monarchs cut it back to a two-point lead with 1:20 left in the game.
McCullough then hit his dunk off a lob pass from Gaynor with 48 seconds remaining to give the Eagles a 61-57 lead.
Darius James scored 19 to lead a trio of players in double figures for Old Dominion.
