Ohio beats Louisiana-Lafayette 74-68 in Rainbow Classic
HONOLULU (AP) - Leon Williams scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Ohio to a 74-68 win over Louisiana-Lafayette in the semifinals of the Rainbow Classic.
Justin Orr added a career-high 20 points for the Bobcats (8-3) and Jerome Tillman had 16.
Chris Gradnigo led Louisiana-Lafayette (3-7) with a career-high 22 points and Travis Bureau added 11.
With the Bobcats down by one with 1:02 remaining, Williams hit a layup and was fouled. He completed the 3-point play to give Ohio the lead for good, 70-68.
Louisiana-Lafayette had a chance to tie or go ahead with less than 30 seconds to go but the Ragin’ Cajuns turned the ball over. The Bobcats made four free throws in the final 14.5 seconds remaining to seal the victory.
After trailing by as much as 11 in the second half, Louisiana-Lafayette went on a 20-8 run to take the lead, 66-65, with 3:53 remaining.
Ohio led 44-33 at halftime.
Ohio advances to face Saint Mary’s in the Rainbow Classic championship game Saturday night. Louisiana-Lafayette will face East Tennessee State for third place Saturday evening.
