Saint Mary’s defeats Tulane in Rainbow Classic

HONOLULU (AP)—Patrick Mills scored 23 points to lead Saint Mary’s to a 64-57 win over Tulane in the first round of the Rainbow Classic Thursday night.

Omar Samhan added 11 points for the Gaels (8-1).

Kevin Sims led the Green Wave (6-4) with 18 points and Robinson Louisme scored 12.

Saint Mary’s closed out the first half with a 15-4 run to take a 32-20 lead at halftime.

Tulane pulled to within seven, 39-32, with 12:14 remaining in the game, but would get no closer.

Saint Mary’s led by as much as 13 several times in the second half.

The Green Wave tied their season-high with 19 turnovers, 13 in the first half.

The Gaels advance to the Rainbow Classic semifinals Friday.
