Williams twins help La Salle rout Puerto Rico-Mayaguez 117086
GUAYNOBO, Puerto Rico (AP)—Freshman Jerrell Williams scored 20 points and his twin brother Terrell added 12 to lead La Salle to a 117-86 victory over Puerto Rico-Mayaguez on Wednesday in the San Juan Shootout.
Eight players scored in double figures for the Explorers (4-4), who had their highest point total since getting 120 against Iona on Jan. 4, 1992.
Omar Velasquez hit a 3-pointer to cut La Salle’s lead to 54-50 with 19:19 to play. Rodney Green made a layup and Darnell Harris hit a 3-pointer to start a run that gave the
Explorers a 12-point lead and the Bulldogs (1-9) got no closer.
Freshman Kyle Griffin had 16 points—12 on 3-pointers—for La Salle, while Green had 14, Kimmani Barrett 11 and Sherman Diaz both had 11 and Harris and Yves Mekongo Mbala both added 10.
Jerrell Williams had 11 rebounds to lead La Salle’s 47-19 advantage on the boards.
Luis Ramirez had 16 points for the Bulldogs.
