Stallworth’s 34 drives Morehead win over Eastern Illinois
MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP)—Maze Stallworth scored a career-high 34 points shooting 80 percent as Morehead State went 14-of-18 from the free-throw line in the final minutes and beat Eastern Illinois 80-75 Wednesday night.
Stallworth finished the night 9-of-11 from the field, including 8-of-10 on 3-point attempts and free throws. Jamyron Steward scored 14 for Morehead (4-6, 2-2 Ohio Valley Conference), and Leon Buchanan had 12.
Romain Martin had a career-high 29 points for Eastern Illinois (1-10, 0-4), and Tyler Laser scored 10.
The Panthers led 68-66 with four minutes remaining but then went scoreless until the final 14 seconds. Two free throws by Steward with 2:20 left put Morehead State ahead 69-68, and the Eagles did not trail again.
Eastern Illinois finished 28-of-47 (59.6 percent) from the field, including 11-of-17 from 3-point range.
Morehead State 22-of-40 from the field, and made 12 of 17 3-point attempts. The Eagles were 24-of-34 on free throws, compared with Eastern Illinois’ 8-of-11.
