Lipscomb rallies for close win over McNeese State
LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP)—Lipscomb University rallied in the second half and Eddie Ard led all scorers with 22 as the Bisons took a 69-65 non-conference basketball victory over McNeese State on Wednesday.
The Bisons (5-8) used the free-throw line for the victory, making 21-of-25 or 84 percent for the game.
McNeese (5-5) held a 34-27 halftime lead but the Bisons chipped away in the second half and took the lead for good at 57-55 at the 2:39 mark on a jump shot by Ard. They ran their lead to eight points before the Cowboys closed the gap.
In the end, McNeese was forced to put up three-point shots and then had to foul to regain possession of the basketball. Point guard John Ford made two key three-point shots to keep the Cowboys close but the Bisons scored their final eight points at the free throw line, going eight for eight in that time frame.
Joining Ard in double-figure scoring was Josh Slater, who had 15.
Jarvis Bradley and John Pichon were McNeese’s only double-figure scorers with 12 each.
