Southern Miss 64, New Orleans 62
BILOXI, Miss. (AP)—Jeremy Wise scored 29 points to lead Southern Mississippi to an 84-62 win over New Orleans on Tuesday in the Gulf Coast Classic.
Wise scored 20 points in the second half and helped the Golden Eagles (6-3) build on a 15-point halftime lead.
The Privateers (7-2) saw a three-game winning streak come to an end as four Southern Miss players scored in the double digits and the Golden Eagles outrebounded New Orleans 42-25.
Southern Miss’ Craig Craft came off the bench to score 12 points in the first half as the Golden Eagles took an 18-point lead with 3:32 before halftime. The Privateers never pulled within single digits after that.
Craft scored 19 points, including a 3-pointer in the second half that was followed by a driving layup that put the Golden Eagles up 50-30. Sai’Quon Stone chipped in 11 points for the Golden Eagles and R.L. Horton added 10. Craft also had nine rebounds.
Bo McCaleb led the Privateers with 24 points, Kyndall Dykes added 15 and Shaun Reynolds chipped in 12.
Southern Miss plays Louisiana Tech Wednesday in the second day of the three-day Gulf Coast Classic. New Orleans will face Alcorn State. Louisiana Tech beat Alcorn 78-69 on Tuesday in the opening game of the tournament.
