Creighton coasts to 110-73 win over Houston Baptist
OMAHA, Neb. (AP)—Creighton hit a season-high 14 3-pointers in a 110-73 win over Houston Baptist Monday at Qwest Center.
Eight different players scored from beyond the arc as the Bluejays improved to 7-1 on the season.
Creighton, which shot 55 percent in the game, hit seven of its first 10 3-point attempts and led by as many as 19 points in the first half. The Jays took control of the game with an early 18-4 run and had a 49-37 advantage at intermission. Ten different players score in the opening half.
Creighton opened the second half with 10 consecutive points to stretch the lead to 59-37. The Jays’ lead reached 41 points in the closing minutes.
Reserve Kenny Lawson led Creighton with a career-best 15 points and eight rebounds. Dane Watts had 14 points and nine rebounds and Booker Woodfox added 11 points.
Creighton had 10 players score eight or more points.
Gordon Watt and Andrew Puzyk each had 17 points to lead the Huskies. Watt also had 10 rebounds.
Houston Baptist (2-13), which is returning to NCAA Division I basketball this year after spending the past 17 seasons in the NAIA, was playing the 14th game of its current 18-game road trip.
