Sanders leads Virginia Commonwealth to 78-45 win over Longwood
RICHMOND, Va. (AP)—Larry Sanders had 13 points, ten rebounds and eight blocked shots Saturday to lead Virginia Commonwealth University to a 78-45 win over Longwood.
The Rams (7-3) rushed to a 15-4 lead in the first seven minutes and 35 seconds. Jamal Shuler and Michael Anderson each scored five during the spurt. The Rams scored the last eight points in the first half to take a 38-18 halftime lead.
Eric Maynor scored 12 points during an 18-3 run beginning the second half as the Rams led 56-21 with 13:21 remaining.
Longwood (2-10) could get no closer than 23.
Maynor led the Rams with 17 points and Wil Fameni contributed a season-high eight rebounds as the Rams outrebounded Longwood 42-39.
Kirk Williams, Brandon Giles and Durann Neil each had seven points for the Lancers, who dropped their ninth straight game.
