Utah Valley St. needs 2 OT to defeat S. Utah 91-88
CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP)—Ryan Toolson hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 32 seconds left in double overtime, giving Utah Valley State a 91-88 win over Southern Utah on Saturday night.
Toolson also hit 3-pointers to send the game to overtime and another to send it to double overtime. He led the Wolverines (4-7) with 35 points. Jordan Brady and Josh Olsen each scored 15. Utah Valley State shot 53 percent from the field, including 64 percent in overtime.
Geoff Payne and Nurudeen Adepoju scored 25 points each to lead Southern Utah (2-8), which is 0-5 at home this year. Davis Baker added 13 points for the Thunderbirds.
Adepoju and Baker went 10-for-27 from 3-point range as Southern Utah shot 55 percent behind the arc and 50 percent overall.
After Brady put Utah Valley State up 88-86 with a layup with 1:16 left, David Marek tied it for the Thunderbirds on a fall-away jumper from the right baseline.
Toolson answered with the game-winner. After Adepoju failed on a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 17 seconds remaining, Olsen missed two free throws with 14 seconds left.
Baker took the Thunderbirds last shot, a 3-point attempt from the right wing that bounced out.
