NEW ORLEANS (AP)—Bo McCalebb had 20 points and T.J. Worley came off the bench for 14 points and 10 rebounds as New Orleans beat Savannah State 71-56 on Saturday.
UNO (7-1) went ahead for good when Kechan Myers stole the ball and Kyndall Dykes hit a layup with 7:08 left to make the score 18-16. The Privateers led 34-27 at halftime.
The teams combined for 52 fouls and 52 turnovers. But UNO got 28 points off of 29 SSU turnovers, while the Tigers (6-8) got 16 from 23 UNO miscues.
Chris Linton led Savannah State with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting.
Shaun Reynolds had 10 points for UNO.
SSU committed 32 fouls but New Orleans shot only 20 percent from the free-throw line, compared to the Tigers’ 70 percent.
Although he shot 2-of-9 and hit only one of his six 3-point attempts, it was enough for New Orleans’ James Parlow to tie Tory Walker for a school career record with 177 3-point goals.
