Forbes, Harris lifts Massachusetts to a 68-61 victory over Toledo
AMHERST, Mass. (AP)—Gary Forbes scored 25 points and Ricky Harris added 17 as Massachusetts withstood a strong second-half comeback by Toledo to gain a 68-61 victory Saturday.
Massachusetts led by a narrow 31-29 margin at halftime, but scored the first 11 points of the second half and led by 13 several times in the second before Toledo bounced back. A basket by Jonathan Amos and a three-pointer by Tyrone Kent put Toledo within six points at 61-55 with 4:15 to play.
A three-point basket and three points from the line by Chris Lowe kept Massachusetts afloat until the final buzzer secured the team’s eighth victory in 10 starts.
Amos and Ridley Johnson had 18 points apiece for Toledo, which fell to its eighth loss in 10 starts.
Massachusetts trailed most of the first half before pulling even at 27 on a three-pointer by Forbes and a hoop by Harris.
Papa Lo’s basket gave the Minutemen their first lead. After Johnson scored for Toledo, Tony Gaffney got his only hoop of the half to give the Minutemen their two-point lead at intermission.
