Ervin’s 17 points tops Arkansas in 67-42 win over UTSA
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP)—Arkansas guard Gary Ervin scored 17 points as the Razorbacks beat Texas-San Antonio 67-42 Wednesday night.
The Arkansas offense was also sparked by Charles Thomas and Patrick Beverley, who each scored 10 points. The two combined for 20 rebounds—Beverley with 13 and Thomas with 7.
Arkansas (8-1) jumped out to an early lead with a 12-3 run, capped by a 3-pointer from Beverley that put the Razorbacks ahead 18-9.
Minutes later, the Razorbacks got a pair of easy dunks, including a one-handed slam by Beverley that excited the crowd.
Arkansas built a 35-18 lead at the half, largely from 24 points in the paint off easy layups.
Texas-San Antonio (4-3), playing man-to-man defense throughout the game, shot only 27.8 percent from the floor in the first half, going 2-for-9 from 3-point range. Overall, the Roadrunners shot 34.1 percent from the floor and committed 22 turnovers.
Arkansas, winner of six straight games, began the second half with a 16-5 run.
The Roadrunners scored only 10 points in the paint. Travis Gabbidon’s 11 points led UTSA’s offense.
