Haanpa has 20, Igbavboa 18 as Valpo beats Evansville 75-67
VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP)—Samuel Haanpaa scored 20 points, Urule Igbavboa had 18 and both were perfect from the free-throw line as Valparaiso beat Evansville 75-67 Tuesday night.
Jarryd Loyd had 15 points for the Crusaders (9-1).
Haanpaa was 5-of-5 and Igbavboa 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.
The teams were tied nine times and swapped the lead 10 times before Valpo took the lead for good with 9:46 left. The score was tied 30-30 at the half, but the Crusaders outscored Evansville 45-37 after the break.
Shy Ely led four Purple Aces in double figures with 17. Pieter Van Tongeren and Jason Holsinger had 14 each and Nate Garner had 10 for Evansville (3-5). Holsinger also had five assists.
Valpo outrebounded the Purple Aces 31-28.
The Purple Aces shot 27-of-54 from the field, while Valpo went 25-of-53. But the Crusaders made 20 points off free throws compared with seven for Evansville.
