Johnson scores 16 to lead Long Island 84-78 over New Hampshire
DURHAM, N.H. (AP)—Kyle Johnson scored 16 points and Long Island finished the first half and started the second with a flourish to defeat New Hampshire 84-78 Monday night.
The Blackbirds (6-3) jumped to a 9-2 lead and New Hampshire (3-6) never caught up as it lost its fifth straight.
An 11-0 run made it 25-9 before the Wildcats used a 17-7 run to pull within 34-28. But Long Island outscored the Wildcats 10-4 to finish the half ahead 44-32, then opened the second half with a 16-5 run for a 23-point lead.
New Hampshire scored the last 6 points to make it close.
Freshman Alvin Abreu had a career high 23 points for New Hampshire and Eric Gilchrese had 16.
