Norfolk State limited to 12 first-half points
HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP)—Sophomore guard Sean Baptiste scored a career-high 23 points and Fairleigh Dickinson opened the game with a 35-8 spurt in cruising to an 80-64 victory over Norfolk State Monday night.
Manny Ubilla hit four 3-pointers and added 19 points as the Knights (2-5) snapped a three-game losing streak in winning the first game between the schools. Freshman John Galvin had nine points and 14 rebounds.
Tony Murphy, a senior who played at nearby Paterson Eastside, had a game-high 26 points for Norfolk State (2-5) in his return to New Jersey. Michael Deloach added 12 points and Larry Vickers had 10 for the Spartans, who were playing their first game following a nine-day break for exams.
Baptiste went 6-for-12 from the floor in the opening half, while Ubilla hit all four of his 3-pointers. Fairleigh Dickinson shot 52 percent in the half, while holding the Spartans to 24 percent in taking a 43-12 lead. The Knights also forced eight turnovers, while committing only three.
The closest that Norfolk State got in the second half was 70-59 with three minutes to play.
