Roberts leads SMU to 90-79 win over Houston Baptist
DALLAS (AP)—Derrick Roberts scored 22 points and SMU won its fourth straight after starting the season 0-4, beating Houston Baptist 90-79 on Sunday.
Roberts scored 17 of his 22 points in the first half, including 12 off 3-pointers. Jon Killen added 18 points for the Mustangs (4-4).
Gordon Watt led Houston Baptist (2-12) with 26 points.
Roberts sank two 3-pointers and made a layup to help push SMU to an early 12-2 lead. A jumper by Emanuel Lewis briefly put Houston Baptist ahead late in the first half, and the Huskies stayed close.
But the Mustangs used a 20-9 run over the final 4:33 to put away the Huskies, who also got 18 points from Baron Sauls.
Mike Walker and Bamba Fall each had 11, and Papa Dia scored 10 for SMU. Dia and Fall each had two blocked shots.
Andrew Puzyk and Willis each scored 11 for the Huskies.
