Idaho breaks 6-game skid with 58-49 win over E. Washington
MOSCOW, Idaho (AP)—Jordan Brooks scored 14 points Sunday as the Idaho Vandals beat Eastern Washington 58-49 in a nonconference game.
Trevor Morris scored 11 points off the bench for the Vandals (2-6), who broke a six-game losing streak.
Gary Gibson led the Eagles (3-8) with a game-high 18 points, while Kellen Williams added 11 for EWU.
Idaho jumped out to a 7-0 lead that was quickly overcome when Brandon Moore put the Eagles up 10-9 with the second of two free throws with 15:27 left in the first half. The Eagles extended their lead to 14-9 with 12:55 to go before the half.
Then Eastern’s offense abandoned it.
The Vandals closed out the first half on a 17-3 run, and led 26-17 at the break.
The Eagles finished the first half shooting just 27.3 percent (6-for-22) from the floor and started the second half by missing their first seven shots.
Gibson scored a bucket 5:25 into the second half. It was Eastern’s first field goal since the 10:44 mark in the first half—a span of 16 minutes and nine seconds.
The Eagles trimmed the deficit to five points with 4:26 remaining when Milan Stanojevic scored a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws in a 20-second span.
Brooks helped the Vandals pull away from that point. The junior converted a 3-point play with 3:03 to play to build the UI lead back to 10 points. Brooks scored eight of his 14 points after halftime.
