Hawaii defeats Long Beach State
HONOLULU (AP)—Riley Luettgerodt scored 13 points to lead Hawaii to a 61-57 win over Long Beach State Sunday.
Matt Gibson added 12 points for the Rainbow Warriors (3-4) and Bobby Nash scored 11, all in the first half. Donovan Morris led Long Beach State (2-6) with 24 points.
Hawaii used an 8-0 spurt to go up 15-8 with 12:28 remaining in the first half. Long Beach State was unable to attempt a field goal during the five-minute Rainbow run. Hawaii led 36-30 at halftime.
Hawaii extended its lead in the second, going up by as much as 16, 54-38, following a 10-0 run with 9:07 remaining.
Long Beach State used a 14-4 run to pull to within four, 61-57, with 2:05 remaining. But the 49ers failed to capitalize on two Hawaii turnovers in the final 35.6 seconds, missing four shots down the stretch.
Long Beach State committed a season-high 24 turnovers to Hawaii’s 14, resulting in 17 fewer shots from the field for the 49ers.
