Gibson’s 3 leads Wofford to 66-65 victory over UNC Greensboro
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP)—Drew Gibson’s 3-pointer with four seconds left lifted Wofford to a 66-65 victory over North Carolina-Greensboro on Saturday night.
UNC Greensboro (3-4, 0-1 Southern Confernence) rallied from a one-point deficit and took an eight-point lead with less than three minutes to play, but scored just five points in the final five minutes.
Gibson made it a one-point game with a layup with 25.1 seconds left, and the Spartans got the ball to Dwayne Johnson, who was fouled and made one of two free throws with 11.3 seconds left, before Gibson’s 3 from the left wing put the Terriers ahead to stay.
UNC Greensboro couldn’t get a final desperation shot off in time, sealing another loss at Wofford’s Johnson Arena. The Terriers have won eight of 11 meetings in the series here.
Kyle Hines had 19 points and 17 rebounds and Ben Stywall added 11 points for the Spartans, who have lost three straight.
Shane Nichols led Wofford (4-2, 1-0) with 20 points, and Gibson added 17 points. Noah Dahlman had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
