Maynor’s 25 spark VCU past Richmond, 65-45
RICHMOND, Va. (AP)—Eric Maynor scored 25 points, including all 14 in a 14-1 run spanning the halves, and Virginia Commonwealth beat Richmond 65-45 Saturday night.
Maynor hit two 3-pointers and a jumper in the lane as the Rams (6-3) outscored Richmond 8-1 over the last 1:56 of the first half to take a 31-30 lead. He then scored the first six of the second half as VCU pulled away from the cold-shooting Spiders.
Richmond (4-6) missed 16 of 20 shots after halftime and scored just 15 points.
Kevin Anderson’s 3-pointer capped a 19-4 burst by the Spiders and gave them a 29-23 lead with 1:56 to go in the first half before Maynor took charge.
Jamaal Shuler added 16 points and Michael Anderson had nine rebounds for VCU.
Anderson was Richmond’s only player to score in double figures with 10.
