Jones leads South Florida to 7th straight victory
TAMPA, Fla. (AP)—Dominique Jones scored 25 points, and Kentrell Gransberry had 18 points and 15 rebounds to help South Florida beat UAB 68-58 on Saturday night for its seventh straight victory.
Gransberry added seven blocks, and Chris Howard scored 14 points for the Bulls. The victory snapped an eight-game losing skid in the series.
Robert Vaden had 19 points to pace the Blazers (7-4), whose longest winning streak in two seasons under coach Mike Davis ended at five.
South Florida outscored UAB 26-8 from the free-throw line in a contest that included a dozen lead changes and six ties. UAB led 49-48 midway through the second half before Jones and Gransberry took charge.
In the first half, USF scored 10 straight points en route to a 15-5 advantage. UAB responded with a 12-3 run, cutting the deficit to one. The lead changed hands four times before USF took a 28-27 edge into the break.
