Freshman leads Southern Miss to 73-54 win over Spring Hill
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP)—R.L. Horton scored a career-high 25 points as Southern Miss beat Spring Hill 73-54 on Saturday.
The highly touted freshman led the Golden Eagles (4-3) in scoring for the second consecutive game after scoring 17 in a loss to South Alabama on Wednesday.
All four of the Golden Eagles’ wins this season have come at home against NAIA competition. Southern Miss snapped Spring Hill’s two-game win streak.
Southern Miss jumped out to a 10-0 lead over Spring Hill (5-3) 4 minutes into the game and never trailed.
Courtney Beasley scored all 12 of his points early and his 3-pointer midway through the first half put the Golden Eagles up 18-3.
The Badgers cut the deficit to 12 twice, including 38-26 at halftime, but never got closer.
Jeremy Wise added 13 points for Southern Miss and Gjio Bain had 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Marcus Coleman led Spring Hill with 14 points while Cash Covington added 11.
Southern Miss held Spring Hill’s leading scorer Noah Woolridge to eight points, almost 10 below his average. Nick Brown had eight rebounds for the Badgers.
