Oral Roberts beats Jackrabbits 80-51 for Sutton’s 150th win
TULSA, Okla. (AP)—Shawn King scored 17 points after a fast start and Moses Ehambe added 13 as Oral Roberts beat South Dakota State 80-51 Saturday night for its 20th consecutive conference win at home.
Ehambe broke the game open by scoring the first eight points of a 10-0 run early in the second half for Oral Roberts (6-3, 2-0 Summit League). Ehambe hit a jumper and then two straight 3-pointers before Marcus Lewis spun for a layup to make it 50-25.
The Jackrabbits (3-5, 0-2) charged back with a 9-0 flurry started when leading scorer Kai Williams made his first basket of the night on a 3-pointer from the left wing just over 5 minutes into the second half. Dale Moss’ layup cut the deficit to 53-37.
Oral Roberts coach Scott Sutton then called a timeout, and the Golden Eagles responded immediately with an 11-2 surge that featured 3-pointers from Robert Jarvis, Ehambe and Adam Liberty to push their lead back to 25.
The Golden Eagles led by at least 22 the rest of the way and earned Sutton his 150th win in nine seasons as Oral Roberts’ coach. Lewis finished with 11 points and Liberty scored 10.
Anthony Cordova scored 14 points to lead South Dakota State, which got its least production of the season from Williams and second-leading scorer Ben Beran.
Williams and Beran came in averaging a combined 32.5 points per game for the Jackrabbits but went scoreless in the first half. Williams, who had career highs with 28 points and 18 rebounds in his previous game against Centenary, was 0-for-4 and Beran missed his only shot in limited playing time after he picked up two early fouls.
Williams ended up with four points while Beran had two.
King scored the Golden Eagles’ first nine points and he had 13 points by halftime as Oral Roberts opened a 36-22 lead. King tied his season high with four blocks.
