Walter scores 22 to lead Ohio past Delaware 78-59
ATHENS, Ohio (AP)—Bubba Walther scored 22 points and made all seven of his field goal attempts and Ohio closed the first half on a 26-7 run in beating Delaware 78-59 Saturday.
Walter was 4-of-4 from the 3-point line, including a 3-pointer with nine minutes left in the first half to give the Bobcats (5-2) the lead for good at 21-19.
Leon Williams added 19 points and Jerome Tillman scored 17 as Ohio outscored the Blue Hens (2-5) 28-12 in the paint. Williams also led Ohio with nine rebounds and Tillman had eight.
Herb Courtney scored 13 points to lead Delaware. Sam McMahon and D.J. Boney had 12 points apiece and Edwin Santiago added 10.
After trailing 42-26 at the half, Delaware cut Ohio’s lead to 55-48 on a 3-pointer by Boney with 10:19 left. But Williams hit two foul shots, Tillman scored on a layup and Walter hit a 3-pointer to extend the lead to 62-48 and put the game out of reach.
Ohio shot 50 percent from the field, 24-of-48, to 40 percent for the Blue Hens, 19-of-47.
Justin Orr scored 10 points for the Bobcats, all in the first half.
