Gordon paces Mississippi St. to 84-59 victory over SE Louisiana
STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP)—Jamont Gordon had 25 points and seven rebounds to lead Mississippi State to an 84-59 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday.
Charles Rhodes scored 16 points with seven rebounds and Ben Hansbrough added 10 for the Bulldogs (5-3), who are 4-1 at home this season. Mississippi State has won 23 straight home games in December.
The Lions led briefly at the beginning of the game, but Gordon scored 12 in the first half and Jarvis Varnado had four blocks to help the Bulldogs to a 41-27 halftime lead.
Gordon also had four assists and his point total tied Rhodes’ team high this season, which came against Miami (Ohio).
Rhodes struggled in the game. In addition to fouling out, he turned the ball over five times. He wasn’t the only Mississippi State player who had trouble holding onto the ball. Eleven Bulldogs committed turnovers and six had two or more.
Patrick Sullivan led the Lions with 16 points and Warrell Span added 10. But Southeastern Louisiana also had trouble with turnovers, with Span and Kevyn Green each committing five of the team’s 22.
The Bulldogs outrebounded the Lions 39-24 with 13 offensive rebounds.
