MVSU picks up first win, beating Belhaven 83-69

ITTA BENA, Miss. (AP)—Carl Lucas scored 26 points to lead four players in double figures, and Mississippi Valley State won its first game of the season 83-69 over NAIA Bellhaven on Saturday night.

Stanford Speech and Michael Clark had 12 points each for the Delta Devils (1-8), who out-rebounded the Blazers 44-38, enjoyed a sizeable advantage from the free throw line and forced 19 turnovers.

The Blazers lost for the first time in nine games, and shot just 31.8 percent from the field (21-of-66). Phillip Holmes, Korey Whiting and Larell Bailey scored 14 points each for Belhaven.
