Iona beats Loyola, Md., 92-68
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP)—Dexter Gray had 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting, and Iona routed Loyola, Maryland, 92-68 Friday night in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
Rashon Dwight and Milan Prodanovic had 16 points apiece and Devon Clarke added 15 for the Gaels (2-6), who shot 59.3 percent from the floor.
Gerald Brown scored 31 points and Brian Rudolph 11 for Loyola (4-5), which lost its third straight.
The Gaels held the Greyhounds without a field goal for the first 4 minutes, 49 seconds of the game and for 5:46 to start the second half.
Dwight scored 13 points and Iona shot 69 percent from the field in opening a 49-24 halftime lead.
Gray’s basket with 9:25 left gave the Gaels their biggest lead, 69-33. Rudolph made two free throws with 3:43 remaining to cut Iona’s lead to 82-59, but the Greyhounds came no closer.
Loyola shot just 32.7 percent from the floor while committing 16 turnovers in the game.
