Siena 74, Fairfield 61
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP)—Alex Franklin scored 16 points as Siena rolled to a 74-61 victory over Fairfield Friday night in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
Kenny Hasbrouck added 14 points for the Saints (4-3, 1-0). Tay Fisher had 11 and Edwin Ubiles 10.
Freshman Yorel Hawkins finished with a career-high 16 points as the Stags (2-7, 0-1) dropped their fifth straight game. The Stags’ Herbie Allen had 13 points and Greg Nero 10.
Fairfield trailed by as much as 16 in the first half, but closed to within 45-39 on a pair of free throws by Allen with 14:54 remaining. Fueled by nine points from Hasbrouck, Siena regained control with a 19-7 spurt to open a 64-46 lead with 7:43 to go.
The Stags, who shot 38.5 percent from the floor (20 of 52), came no closer than nine the rest of the way.
Siena hit 10-of-18 3-pointers and shot 24-of-49 (49 percent) overall.
