Loyd’s layup lifts Valparaiso to win over Wright State
FAIRBORN, Ohio (AP)—Jarryd Loyd’s layup with 31 seconds remaining helped lead Valparaiso to a 71-66 win over Wright State in the Horizon League opener for both teams Thursday night.
Wright State’s Vaughn Duggins made a 3-pointer to tie the game at 66-66 with 1:05 remaining, but Loyd countered with his layup. Urule Igbavboa followed with three free throws in the final 14 seconds to help the Crusaders (7-1) pull away for good.
Loyd finished with 18 points. Igbavboa and Shawn Huff each scored 16, and Jake Diebler added 12 for Valparaiso.
Duggins led the Raiders (2-2) with 18 points and Todd Brown and Scottie Wilson had 12 each.
