Oral Roberts holds off North Dakota St. for a 69-57 win
TULSA, Okla. (AP)—Robert Jarvis scored seven of his team-high 13 points in the final four minutes to help Oral Roberts defeat North Dakota State 69-57 on Thursday night.
Adam Liberty, Moses Ehambe and Shawn King added 11 points apiece for the Golden Eagles (5-3, 1-0 Summit). King was 5-of-6 from the field, and scored nine in the first half to help Oral Roberts carry a 35-24 lead into intermission.
Brett Winkelman scored 16 of his game-high 22 points in the second half to help North Dakota State (4-5, 0-1 Summit) keep the Golden Eagles from turning the game into a rout. Mike Nelson had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Bison.
Jarvis’ offense late in the game helped the Golden Eagles withstand Winkelman’s second-half flurry.
Oral Roberts used a seven-point run early in the second half to take its biggest lead, 42-26, with 16:24 left. The closest the Bison came after that was at 49-41 and 51-43.
In the final four minutes, Winkelman baskets twice cut Oral Roberts’ lead to 10 points, but each time Jarvis responded, first with a basket and then a 3-pointer, to turn back the Bison’s rally.
Ben Woodside, who was the Bison’s leading scorer entering the game with a 25.3 average, was held to six points and was only 2-of-10 from the field.
North Dakota State outrebounded the Golden Eagles 39-31. Oral Roberts, however, shot 50 percent from the field (24-of-48) compared to 35 percent (20-of-58) for the Bison. The Golden Eagles had five players contribute to its season-high 11 3-pointers.
After the Bison took their only lead at 2-1, Oral Roberts reeled off seven straight points.
Jarvis sank consecutive 3-pointers to give Oral Roberts its biggest lead of the first half, 26-13. The Bison responded with six straight points before the Golden Eagles ended the half with an 9-5 surge.
