Mitchell leads Missouri State to 73-66 win over UNC-Wilmington
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP)—Deven Mitchell had 25 points and 10 rebounds to lead Missouri State to a 73-66 win over UNC-Wilmington on Wednesday night.
Missouri State (5-2) had to survive a furious comeback by UNC-Wilmington (5-3). The Bears led 61-48 with 4:18 left before Wilmington went on an 11-2 run to close the gap to 63-59 with 1:34 remaining.
Todd Hendley scored eight of the Seahawks’ 11 points during the run. A 3-pointer by Shane Laurie with 1:01 left—Missouri State’s first field goal in nearly five minutes—put the Bears up 66-59. A basket by Vladimir Kuljanin and a banked-in 3-pointer by T.J. Carter cut that lead to 67-64 with 28.3 seconds left, but four-straight Missouri State free throws put the game away.
Laurie finished with 17 points for the Bears.
Kuljanin led Wilmington with 15 points and 10 rebounds, Carter finished with 17 points and Daniel Fountain added 15.
