Jones’ 30 points helps South Florida win 6th straight
RICHMOND, Va. (AP)—Dominique Jones scored 10 of his 30 points during a 19-2 run midway through the second half Wednesday as South Florida beat Richmond 79-65 for its sixth straight win.
With the Spiders leading 39-35 following Ryan Butler’s tip-in with 13:32 remaining, Jones hit a 3-pointer on the Bulls’ next possession to ignite the spurt. South Florida (6-3) scored on seven straight possessions over a 4:08 period while holding Richmond to a field goal by Dan Geriot.
Richmond (4-5) led 31-29 at the end of the first half. Neither team led by more than four during the half.
Jones added 14 rebounds, leading South Florida to a 46-24 edge on the boards. The Bulls were 26-of-32 from the free-throw line, hitting 16 straight during the second half.
Chris Howard added 16 points for South Florida, Orane Chin 11, and Jesus Verdejo 10.
Geriot led the Spiders with 17 points, and Butler added 11.
