Laing, Garcia lead Seton Hall over St. Peter’s
NEWARK, N.J. (AP)—Brian Laing scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half, while John Garcia posted a double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds as Seton Hall defeated St. Peter?s 85-75 Tuesday night at the Prudential Center.
Seton Hall (7-1) used a late first half run to race ahead 35-31 at intermission after trading shots with the visiting Peacocks throughout.
After two free throws from Darrell Lampley gave St. Peter’s a 31-29 lead, the Pirates scored the final six points with four free throws and a John Garcia rebound basket.
Laing, the lone senior who started for the Pirates, made only one of his first six shots but jump-started an 8-2 second-half run with a pretty turnaround bank shot. He finished 6-of-17 from the floor.
St. Peter?s (3-4) would cut the deficit to seven points on several occasions in the second half—the last on a post move from Todd Sowell—but the Pirates answered almost every shot.
Raul Orta hit first five 3-point attempts and finished with 17 points for St. Peter’s. Sowell also had 17, along with 15 rebounds, for the Peacocks.
