Sam Houston St. stays unbeaten with 82-48 win over Texas Lutheran

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP)—Sam Houston State ran its record to 7-0 with an 82-48 win over Texas Lutheran Tuesday night.

Both teams started slow, but the Bearkats went on a 14-0 run to go up 18-3 with 11:52 left in the first half. The Bulldogs (0-6) never came closer than 13 points the rest of the way, trailing 48-18 at halftime.

Ashton Mitchell came off the bench to lead Sam Houston State with 18 points. Ryan Bright added 14 points and Reggie Rawlins scored 10 for the Bearkats.

Texas Lutheran was led by Josh Scott’s nine points, with eight apiece from Nate Walton and Michael Hill.

Texas Lutheran shot 53 percent from the field in the second half, but did not threaten the Bearkats, turning the ball over 30 times in the game to only 13 for Sam Houston. The Bulldogs were also outrebounded, 39-27.
