Northwestern State gets win over Southern, New Orleans
NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP)—Gerrell Thomas had a career-best 19 points and added 10 rebounds to lead Northwestern State over Southern-New Orleans 96-76 on Tuesday night.
The Demons (4-5), winning their fourth straight at home, also got their 20th consecutive win over non-Division I opposition, dating back to the first game of the 1995-96 season.
For SUNO (3-3), the game was logged as an exhibition contest and did not count on their season record, although senior guard Dominic Perry scored a game-high 25 points. Santiago Gomez added 10 points for the Black Knights.
Trey Gilder added 18 points for Northwestern, while C.J. Clark posted a season-best 15 points, senior Colby Bargeman added 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Deividas Petravicius added 11.
Northwestern State held SUNO to 39 percent, the best defensive effort of the season by the Demons.
Northwestern State led 41-28 while shooting only 42 percent in the first half, but fired in 56 percent of its shots afterward. The Demons outrebounded the visitors 52-33.
