E. Michigan rallies for 72-63 win over Illinois State
YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP)—Carlos Medlock scored 18 points and Justin Dobbins added 14 to rally Eastern Michigan to a 72-63 victory over Illinois State Tuesday night, snapping the Eagles’ two-game losing streak.
Jesse Bunkley added 10 points for the Eagles (4-4), who recorded their first win over a Missouri Valley Conference school since they beat Drake in the 1997-98 season.
Osiris Eldridge had 18 points and Dom Johnson and Emmanuel Holloway each added 10 for the Redbirds (5-3), who have lost three of their last five games.
Eastern Michigan led 30-26 at halftime.
Illinois State cut the Eagles’ lead to one point three times during the second half, but Eastern Michigan held off the Redbirds down the stretch by scoring 14 of the game’s final 22 points. The Redbirds entered the game hitting 47.3 percent of their field goal attempts, but were held to 32.7 percent shooting.
Illinois State began the game by opening up a 10-point lead. Eastern Michigan committed eight early turnovers and made only three of its first nine shots.
The Eagles then scored 17 of the next 22 points.
