Raji scores 13 points to pace BC in 61-39 win over Saint Louis
BOSTON (AP)—Corey Raji scored 13 points and Tyrelle Blair 11 to lead Boston College to a 61-39 victory over Saint Louis on Tuesday night in the schools’ first-ever meeting.
BC (6-1) also got 10 points apiece from Tyrese Rice and Shamari Spears. The Eagles open what is expected to be a tough Atlantic Coast Conference schedule at Maryland on Sunday. The team will by relying on a lineup of mostly underclassmen after Jared Dudley, last year’s ACC player of the year, graduated.
Luke Meyer and Tommie Liddell paced Saint Louis (6-4) with 11 points each. The Billikens, who shot just 31 percent, begin Atlantic 10 play in January.
The Billikens looked overmatched from the outset as the Eagles forced them into a number of tough shots late into the shot clock, opening a 23-5 edge 11 1/2 minutes into the game.
BC mixed in some 3-pointers with easy inside baskets for its big lead. Tyler Roche connected on a pair of 3s, and Rice added one. Spears also had six points during the spree.
BC held Saint Louis to 31 percent shooting and led 33-20 at halftime.
In the second half, Saint Louis never threatened to make it a game. BC pushed its advantage to 20 points (48-28) on Raji’s layup with 12:21 to play.
