American defeats Howard 66-54 for 1,000th all-time win
WASHINGTON (AP)—Garrison Carr came off the bench to score 17 points and American beat Howard 66-54 on Tuesday for the Eagles’ 1,000th all-time victory.
The Eagles (5-4) opened the second half with 10 straight points while holding the Bison (3-6) scoreless for nearly seven minutes to lead 44-30.
Brian Gilmore and Jordan Nichols each scored 11 points and Bryce Simon added 10 points for the Eagles, who have won three of their last four.
Eugene Myatt led the Bison with a game-high 22 points and Jeron Smith added 12 points.
The 5-11 Carr led the way from long range with four 3-pointers and a game-high eight rebounds.
Trailing 18-7 with 13:25 remaining in the first half, Carr’s first 3-pointer sparked a 15-0 run and the Eagles led 34-30 at the halftime. Carr had 11 points in the first half while Myatt’s 14 points paced the Bison, who have lost two straight overall.
